Humanizing the Humans of Infinity: Kyle Randolph (aka Pride of Rodina)

It's that time of the month again: to humanize the humans behind Infinity and the community we enjoy so much! Kyle Randolph is this week's subject, so get ready to learn some more about the people in the community. For reference, I'm the italicized bits and he's the regular font bits (just kidding, I'm actually both parts).

-What do you currently do for a living?

I'm a college student who works in a few offices around campus. I'm also a freelance editor for Modiphius' Infinity RPG.

-Do you have a degree or degrees? What are they in? Do you think they help you with playing Infinity or when interacting with the community?

I currently do not have a degree, but give it another month and I'll have a Bachelors of Science in Psychology. Does it help me with playing Infinity or interacting with the community? I guess it helps me realize how my actions affect others and how to be a more positive and helpful person. It sometimes helps me predict list designs and play styles based on personalities, but it's a really loose and vague correlation, so it's not really that helpful. It definitely helped me cook up the faction personality quizzes though!

-If you had one wish, what would you wish for?

Phew, this is a tough one. I would probably wish for everyone to never feel lonely again. Seems that it's been a pretty common plague lately. We have the ability to be closer and more connected with technology these days, but it seems that humans use it more often as a tool or weapon for their own selfish drives and ambitions instead.

-Where do you live? What store do you usually play at?

I live in the southern part of Missouri, down in the boot heel, as folks call it. Our store just recently decided to stop supporting wargames and does comics and CCGs full time instead, so I either play up in St. Louis or have the local gang over to my house.

-What faction/s do you play?

I play USARF, CHA, Vanilla Ariadna, Hassassins, Bakunin, Tohaa, and JSA. I plan on playing TAK, Ramah, Tunguska, Triumvariate, and Invincible Army as well. Yeah, I'll be busy for a while, ha ha.

-Can you give us the full load down on how, when, and why you started playing Infinity?

I started back in 2013 when I was getting tired of 40k and wanted to try something else. I still wanted to play a miniature wargame, as I love painting, building, converting, and making terrain, but I wanted something more action-packed and on a smaller scale. I think it was on Bell of Lost Souls when I stumbled across the game in 2012. It looked so freaking cool and sounded like a lot of fun, but I wasn't ready to commit to a different game yet. However, in 2013, I decided I would leave 40k behind and start Infinity. I loved the Kazak models and I understood the fact that they weren't an official sectorial yet, but I always read it's not your list, but you, so I decided to go with it. If I could get Tau to work in 4th and 5th Edition 40k, I could get Kazaks to work! So, I bought myself 200 points of Kazaks as a birthday present to myself and began work on them immediately. When I moved away to attend my first university, I started a group down in Arkansas and we played somewhat regularly. Then when I transferred back home, I joined the St. Louis group and running demos in my hometown.

-What do you do for the Infinity community? Or, what have you done already? Don’t be humble let us know about everything!

I am the Pride of Rodina and I run Pride of Rodina. I also wrote the Ramah and Kazak tactics, and I am currently working on the Tunguska one with Penemue. I've been helping with running demos at GenCon since last year and will be doing it again this year, but that's about it.

-What is your biggest Infinity accomplishment?

Out of the game, the Pride of Rodina blog, of course! A whole lot of sweat, blood, and tears have gone into it (not really, just a lot of vodka).

Within the game, my biggest accomplishment was when I brought a Spetsnaz AD onto the table, stabbed a Rasail to death, killed the Chaksa with a knife, and then shot a Clipso at point blank range to let the spray kill Aelis, and a Kameal, leaving only the Makaul alive. Or pretty much anytime I use my Antipodes or Veteran Kazak paramedic. Neither of them disappoint me and do a lot of really awesome things every game.

Spetsnaz!

-What would you like to see in Infinity in the future?

TAK. All I want is TAK, with lots of awesome Fireteam options and a S5 HI choice. I'd love to see something similar to Command and Conquer Red Alert's Telsa troopers.

-Do you have any hobbies outside of Infinity? What are they?

Infinity and school's been eating up most of my free time lately, but I like to read philosophy, write short stories, play video games, and play a lot of different tabletop games; RPGs, like Mutant: Year Zero, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, and the Infinity RPG. I really enjoy the games Boss Monster, Frostgrave, Cards Against Humanity, Settlers of Catan, and Smash Up as well.

-Is there anything else you’d like the Infinity community to know about you?

I have a pretty slick Spetsnaz cosplay and almost the entire Red Army Choir's music. I also have over 900 points of Kazaks.

And that's Kyle, the Pride of Rodina, himself! I hope you enjoyed learning about him (me) some more and don't forget, comrades, heels to the ground for a proper squat.
